Rohit sarma

Rohit Sharma's daughter Samaira refuses to leave him after India win Champions Trophy; wife Ritika's reaction is gold

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma, the bludgeoning batter, who sends chills down the spines of new-ball bowlers across the globe, becomes an entirely different person around his family. He is all smiles; there are no signs of any worry whatsoever. It definitely helps if he is meeting his wife and daughter after leading India to another ICC title. After India beat New Zealand by four wickets in the final in Dubai on Sunday to win the ICC Champions Trophy, Rohit celebrated with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh and daughter, Samaira, on the sidelines of the Dubai International Stadium.

Ritika and Samaira had travelled to Dubai to watch the India vs New Zealand final, and their efforts bore fruit as India went on to lift the trophy. Rohit's daughter was so happy and relieved that she hugged her father and refused to let go of him, even as Ritika could not stop giggling.

Like a loving father, Rohit was in no hurry, for he knew what it meant for her and the entire nation.

After receiving the Champions medal, the trophy and the famous white jacket, Rohit Sharma came back to his family to share a warm and emotional hug with wife Ritika.

Rohit, spinners shine as India win Champions Trophy

Rohit made a combative 76 to back up a potent spin bowling display as India beat New Zealand by four wickets to win a record third Champions Trophy title. Chasing 252 to win, India got off to a fast start through their captain's first half-century of the tournament before KL Rahul hit an unbeaten 34 to help seal victory with six balls to spare. India added to their trophies in 2002 and 2013 to go past Australia, who have two titles.

India, the world's number one ODI team, finished unbeaten in the eight-nation tournament played in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

"It is very nice," Rohit said. "We played some good cricket though the tournament. To have the result our way is a great feeling."

Star batsman Virat Kohli said: "It's been amazing, we wanted to bounce back after a tough Australia tour. Lovely playing with a bunch of amazing youngsters. They're stepping up and taking India in the right direction."

"When you leave, you want to leave in a better position. So many impactful knocks (Shubman) Gill, Shreyas (Iyer), Rahul have played. The team is in good hands," he added.

Both Kohli and Rohit had a lean run of form in India's 3-1 Test defeat in Australia earlier this year and the pair came into the tournament with speculation swirling over their ODI retirements.

In a battle of spin on a sluggish Dubai pitch, New Zealand's bowlers put India in trouble at 203-5 with Rohit and Shreyas Iyer, who hit 48, back in the pavilion.

But Rahul kept calm and along with Hardik Pandya (18) and Ravindra Jadeja, who hit the winning boundary, steered the team home to loud cheers from a largely Indian crowd in a sea of blue.

India played all their matches at the Dubai International Stadium after they refused to tour hosts Pakistan due to political tensions.

New Zealand won the toss news

In the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final held today at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first against India.

A significant development for New Zealand is the absence of Matt Henry, the tournament's leading wicket-taker, who was ruled out due to a shoulder injury sustained in the semi-final against South Africa.

The match was relocated to Dubai from Pakistan, a decision that disappointed many Pakistani cricket fans who had anticipated hosting the final.

For the latest updates on the match, you can follow live coverage on reputable sports news outlets such as The Guardian, Firstpost, and The Economic Times.

India vs New Zealand champion trophy latest news

The ICC Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand is currently underway in Dubai. India, led by captain Rohit Sharma, is considered the favorite due to advantageous conditions and familiarity with the playing field, as they didn't have to travel during the tournament. New Zealand, captained by Mitchell Santner, is aiming to overcome past close calls in major finals, including losses in the 2015 and 2019 50-over World Cup finals, and the T20 equivalent in late 2021.

New Zealand is concerned about the fitness of their key pacer, Matt Henry, who sustained a shoulder injury in the semi-final against South Africa. Henry, the tournament's leading wicket-taker, will undergo a last-minute fitness test to determine his participation. Additionally, New Zealand is preparing to face India's "mystery spinner," Varun Chakravarthy, who took 5-42 in their group match in Dubai.

India's opener, Shubman Gill, emphasized that while the team is eager to secure the Champions Trophy title, they are not letting desperation affect their performance. The team feels more balanced and less overwhelmed by big matches, especially after breaking an 11-year global title drought with their Twenty20 World Cup win in the West Indies last year. India's strong batting lineup, including Virat Kohli's return to form, adds to their confidence.

For the latest updates and live coverage, you can follow reputable sports news outlets such as The Guardian and Reuters.

Virat Kohli proves

Virat Kohli proves his dominance once more by leading India into the Champions Trophy final

During the Champions Trophy semifinal match against Australia Virat Kohli conducted a patient run chase under intense pressure to lead India toward their challenging 265-run goal. Kohli demonstrated composure by scoring valuable runs with Shreyas Iyer while batting before missing out on his 52nd ODI hundred

The crucial run chase took place under substantial pressure circumstances where Virat Kohli emerged.

The instant reaction of spectators is to express WOW after watching each chase masterpiece he performs. Throughout his run chase Virat Kohli keeps strict control while reducing threats so narrowly that his swing seems as breezy as refreshing wind does during hot afternoons. Kohli handles his innings with complete composure while running the calculation points flawlessly to build phases until he reaches the target.

A solid start, busy acceleration and then the late flourish. One phase at a time. Kohli maintains such a constant batting foundation which allows team members to stay relaxed during chases.

The total of 264 presented India with a challenging target since they faced Pakistan at a crucial knockout match where Pakistan has thwarted Indian successes many times before. A shaky beginning that included a quick departure from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill did not affect Kohli who consistently delivers performances at the highest level

During batting with Shreyas Iyer he managed to sustain the required run rate by matching the pace of spin deliveries that captain Steve Smith strategically applied. The right-handed batting pair maintained high run speeds while eliminating the loose deliveries which caused Australia frustration throughout about 20 overs.

The batsmen maintained an observant approach before displaying a rapid level of offensive skill where Kohli managed to hit more boundaries than his fellow cricketer. Through their 111-delivery partnership Kohli scored 46 runs in 49 balls while Shreyas hit 45 runs from his 62-ball innings.
